Dr. Lisa Julian, Ph.D. has combined her formal scientific training with her experience in Hatha yoga and to arrive at an understanding of health and the human body from the inside out. After graduating from the University of California Irvine (her home town) with a B.S. in chemistry, she pursued her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry "the molecules of life" at the University of Michigan. In 2005, Lisa graduated from U of M at the age of 24 with her doctorate degree.

She then spent over 3 years as a research scientist for the biopharmaceutical company Amgen in San Francisco developing drugs for diabetes and cancer. After gaining experience in drug discovery and creating ideas of her own, she began a shift toward academia to pursue her own research in the discovery of novel cancer therapeutics. Lisa feels it is her purpose in life to make contributions toward the prevention and treatment of cancer after losing her mom to multiple myeloma in 2008. She took an NIH fellowship at the University of Illinois, and then finally a professorship in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Colorado in Denver in 2011. Her research at the University was focused on the design and synthesis of new molecules to treat cancer selectively targeting the Mcl-1 protein.

While at CU Denver, Lisa also developed and taught her unique course the "Science of Food" to advanced undergraduates.  She is published in world renowned journals and is an inventor on four patents from her work at Amgen.

After spending three years in Denver, she moved to beautiful Summit County full-time and opened her wellness studio Elevated Yoga & Holistic Health in August of 2014, with an intention to educate the community on the importance of cancer and disease prevention through whole mind-body health, using yoga and mindfulness-based eating. A "Science-Based Holistic Health" approach.

Dr. Lisa began writing her unique 'Science of Food' Column for the Summit Daily News in 2015 and continues researching and writing for the public on important food and health related topics. Stay tuned for her book Eat your Electrons!

Dr. Lisa closed the Yoga studio in April of 2018 and spent the following academic year as a Visiting Lecturer at  the University of Illinois. She has continued to teach at Colorado Mountain College (chemistry, human nutrition and non-credit culinary classes) and University of New England (organic chemistry) on an adjunct basis. In 2021 she accepted a full-time (remote) position as a Research Scientist for a non-profit organization - SRI Biosciences, working again in the drug discovery field.

She currently lives in Silverthorne Colorado, where she plans to raise her two beautiful daughters. You can find her teaching and practicing yoga at Summit Sol Wellness in Dillon. She also works with the High Country Conservation Program (HC3) in the summer seasons to provide local organic food to the families in our community. For fun Dr. Lisa enjoys gardening, cooking, hiking, running, snowboarding, and paddle boarding - soaking up all the beauty of Summit County Colorado.
